Botswana and Zimbabwe

Summer 2000

I spent a month in Africa directly after completing my training as a teacher.  Three weeks were spent in Botswana and one in Zimbabwe.  Three main carvings were worked on during that time.

Noga - Soapstone

"Night" was initially carved at Chapungu Sculpture Park in Harare.  I spent two days with the artists carving this piece sat on the ground under a tree with my packed lunch and a drink.  Brilliant experience. The carving was completed on my return home.

"Noga" (meaning Snake) and "Small Woman" were carved in Botswana with an old broken cold chisel and a small bit of sandpaper.
